Is Kim Kardashian becoming an “American Idol” judge? That was the claim from a website exactly one year ago today. It was untrue then and time has further proven it’s false.

On September 15, 2017, RadarOnline swore up and down that Kardashian secured a job as a judge on the rebooted “American Idol,” because the show’s host, Ryan Seacrest, who produces “Keeping Up With The Kardashian,” made it happen. To back-up its premise, the often discredited site quoted what it called a “source,” who said that while the producers were looking to hire “people within the music business,” such as Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, “Ryan thinks the show should hire Kim.” The same seemingly ill-informed or possibly fabricated “source” allegedly said, “Promotion and social media are now just as important to being a successful artist as singing,” and Kardashian’s a master at that. “Adding Kim will be a game-changer,” asserted the supposed tipster.

A full 365 days have passed and it’s clear, as Gossip Cop initially reported, that the website was completely wrong. Contrary to relying on an unidentifiable “source,” we checked in with ABC as well as Kardashian’s rep, who told us the blog’s story was untrue. At the time, we wrote, “ABC is looking for music artists with significant experience in the industry, not a reality star.” And, in fact, “American Idol” hired Katie Perry, Richie, and Bryan.

Only once in the show’s history did it hire someone from outside the music industry and that was Ellen DeGeneres, who replaced Paula Abdul in 2010. But that experiment wasn’t successful from either perspective. Even DeGeneres called it “one of the worst decisions I’ve made.”

As Gossip Cop noted 12 months ago, and far too many times since then, RadarOnline does not have a great track record with its reporting about Kardashian. Shortly before its inaccurate story about Kardashian joining “American Idol,” the same site falsely linked her to another ABC show. It wrongly claimed Kardashian was looking to replace Kelly Ripa on “Live,” also with the help of Seacrest, the morning show’s co-host.

Earlier this year, the blog also incorrectly reported that Kardashian and Kanye West were going broke. By various accounts, the couple has a combined net worth of more than $300 million and they continue making more money. Just last week alone, in addition to releasing a new line of makeup, Kardashian signed a deal with an Israeli eyewear company that will net her millions. Much like the aforementioned articles, the claim about Kardashian joining “American Idol” was wrong a year ago and it remains off-key.
