Ben Affleck Starring In Movie About Convicted Murderer Scott Peterson?
Is Ben Affleck planning to star in a movie about Scott Peterson, who was convicted in 2004 of murdering his pregnant wife and their unborn son? That’s the claim in one of the tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we’ve learned the truth.
According to the Globe, the actor plans to make his post-rehab comeback by playing the infamous killer, who’s currently on death row at San Quentin State Prison. An alleged insider tells the magazine, “Ben’s career has been on a downslide for the past few years while he battled personal demons and dealt with the failure of his marriage. He’s convinced a psychological thriller about a seemingly normal, handsome young man who slaughtered his pretty wife and unborn son is a ticket to the top.”
The suspicious source further contends that Affleck is “planning a trip to San Quentin Prison to interview Scott in person and to pitch his movie idea.” The questionable tipster goes on to say that the actor is “taking full control” of the supposed project, adding, “He’s writing the script and wants to direct, produce and star.”
The outlet’s bogus premise is based on claims from an anonymous and untraceable “source,” but Affleck’s rep tells Gossip Cop on the record that it’s made-up. The actor isn’t planning a movie about Peterson. It seems this story was concocted because Affleck shares somewhat of a resemblance with the convicted killer. It’s worth noting, however, that Peterson’s murder trial took place when he was in his early 30’s. Affleck is now 46, so he’d presumably be too old for the role. Regardless of age, the tabloid’s story is fabricated.
Meanwhile, the actor has a lot of projects lined up already. Affleck will be directing Matt Damon in a true-crime movie about an ex-cop who stole millions of dollars from the McDonald’s Monopoly game. Affleck also recently signed on to star in a Netflix movie with Anne Hathaway. And Affleck is also gearing up to star in the drama Torrance, about a former basketball star struggling with addiction. His production company Pearl Street Films also has dozens of other projects in various stages of development, but a Peterson biopic isn’t among them.
It’s worth noting, when high-profile movies go into development, it’s the major Hollywood trades that almost always break the news. On the other hand, the tabloids have been known to make up a lot of nonexistent film projects over the years. This supposed Affleck/Peterson movie is another one of them.
